31 Days. It's Bigger Than Us

There is something deep within nearly every human being that tells us there is something bigger than ourselves at work.

This seed of recognition is there regardless of what your religious or spiritual background or practice is...

This seed is there even if you have no such background or practice,

because you cherish certain standards and ethics
that transcend merely personal self-interest of the moment.

We humans know that our self-interest is much larger than it appears in our narrow ability to see and think.
We know that it is tied to our families, our communities, our planet.

And this is the door that allows you to step outside yourself, even if for a moment. And in that moment, you become much more expansive than you might experience on a day-to-day basis.

If you allow this intellectual, thinking-based recognition to move into your heart space...
Or better yet, if you start from the heart...
This seed sprouts joy, connection, compassion, aliveness, and a wistful hint of wanting the best for all others.

...

I am grateful for this seed of recognition that unites us all, even when I forget it.

I am grateful it is ever there, ready, waiting to sprout forth its bounty.

I am grateful for the ability to love.

I am grateful for a heart that knows that what's at work is much bigger than this one little body that moves through my day.
