Pringles Can Firecracker Tutorial!

Ka-boom! These little cuties will knock your socks off and ignite your imagination. Here are two quick variations for the Pringles can firecracker tutorial: (1) Mod Podge and (2) Paint.

OK...here's the Pringles can Firecracker tutorial:

An addiction to taste for Pringles comes in handy for this project!


Supplies: 

• empty Pringles cans
• paint {red, white and blue, of course!}
• Mod Podge
• paper napkins you like
• wire star garland
• foil paper
• wooden skewers {you'll be using them for grilling anyway!} 

Tools: 

• scissors, paint brush, hot glue gun

Let's start with the Mod Podge version. Select napkins (or paper) you like. Dessert size are perfect for the Pringles can. Napkins usually are 2- or 3-ply. You want just the top printed layer.

Note that if you Mod Podge directly over the Pringles Can, the design of the can may show through the napkin.

I coated all my Pringles cans with white paint before bedtime. One coat was sufficient. The next morning, I brushed on a layer of Mod Podge and draped the napkin around the can and smoothed it down.

Then one more coat of Mod Podge over the top completely finished the can! Easy and fast pringles can FIRECRACKERS!

Painting the can was just as simple. Again, brush a layer of white paint on the Pringles can. Have fun painting a freehand July 4th design. Punch stars out of painter's tape and stick them on before brushing on the blue so that you're left with white stars when finished.

Both the Mod Podge and the painted firecrackers have their appeal, and I will show you more variations in a coming post.

Now for the tops. Gotta make it look like the fuse is going off! You can purchase ready-made 'sprigs' or make them yourself with foil tissue paper and wire star garland. Here's how:

1. To make things simple, remove the foil from the package and cut one small rectangle right along the fold lines. Fold this approximately 6"x3" piece of foil in 1/2 and snip it like fringe. Cut deeper fringe on one end working your way to a shallower fringe. {This will help create more of a fountain effect.} 
2. Put a small glob of glue on your skewer, and start rolling the foil around it, working from the shallow side to the longer fringe side. 
3. Then wrap a 4" bit of wire star garland around what you just glued. 
4. Repeat with one more foil fringe, gluing it just a bit lower on the skewer. Then wrap a bit of the wire garland around that, too.

Now you have a pretty, sparkly "fuse." 

Simply poke the wooden skewer through the Pringles can lid.

The foil paper makes a fun fountain for the firecracker fuse. {Say that fast 3 times!}

Kids would have a blast helping you make these. Painted or Mod Podged, these firecrackers are very festive. They are also functional.  How would YOU use them?
