Turn up the tunes
and break out the goodies!
It's time to go retro and learn:
How to Make A
Vintage Record Cupcake Stand
I've assembled an easy - to - follow
photo friendly tutorial
with all the steps for making your own
inexpensive vinyl record dessert stand.
Let's get started…
First the supplies:
vinyl records, a cake stand or dessert stand kit,
large washers, a drill and screwdriver,
and some sort of base.
I recommend adding a base to give your cupcake stand some height and stability.
Simply purchase a bowl from the dollar store,
(I found a clear one and spray painted it black inside)
drill a hole in the center,
and turn it upside down for the base.
Important tip: when you're drilling the hole in
your bowl base, start with a small pilot hole first
to avoid cracking out the bowl. Drill successively
larger holes until the cake stand screw will go through.
Your cake stand kit will come with a base screw and washers. I purchased some larger washers for added stability.
Layer a large washer on the top and bottom of each record layer of your 3-tiered dessert stand.
The dessert stand kit simply screws together.
I found that the holes in the record were already
the perfect size for my cake stand kit.
On the very top layer of the cupcake stand,
you do not need to use the large washer.
As you can see, I chose a dessert stand kit
with a pretty heart for the topper.
But to complete the music theme
for this shindig,
I created a special topper out of CDs
to slide over the top of the heart.
