How to Make Stylish, Sassy Aprons

Aprons are an iconic housekeeping accessory. They make great gifts for bridal showers, hostess and house warmings, Mothers Day and more.

When I put a saucy twist on these cheeky aprons, comments and emails came forth asking me how to DIY. So... I give you the tutorial!

Snarky Thanksgiving Apron

I don't know what comes over me. But sometimes these vintage ad women have things they gotta say. Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday...and can be a little nutty with all the cookin' and cleanin.' So, if you find yourself getting a bit snarky, laugh about it!

I love this fabric! And of course, I always print my designs on washable computer printer paper. {resource here} That way I never have to worry about washing and ironing my creations...

Rosin Up Your Rope Hand!

Back by popular demand, this sassy apron lassos a bit of the wild west for a fun new twist.
A shapely apron is layered with a vintage ad that has been altered to include a saucy sentiment, and inkjet printed on special fabric.

Don't let the demure bows and flower accent fool you into thinking the wearer of this accessory is of the tame, domesticated variety!

Notice the feisty features such as the faux leather fringe, the shiny buttons, the glittery ribbon accents, and-- who can say who's really holding the goods?

Q: When have you wrangled some of that wild west "sass" into your creative pursuits?

Cheeky Aprons

Get ready for a cheeky Mother’s Day!  Today I put a saucy twist on an iconic accessory of motherhood: the apron. These altered aprons bloom with color and verve this early spring.
vintage ad images are cropped, paired with a sassy saying, and inkjet printed on special fabric

I have the fondest memories of my Granny wrapping one of her many beautiful aprons around my little waist as we prepared to make chocolate chip cookies. With her tender way, she made it such a loving and lovely ritual.

And yet I also grew up in a time when my mother couldn’t secure her own small bank loan simply because she was female, even though she brought in her own steady paycheck. Thankfully that shifted while I was growing up.

These aprons reflect a bit of the spicy dichotomy many women experience: a 'pull' toward and celebration of the nurturer’s role, and a 'push' away from being confined and solely defined by it. Added is an ode to the caffeine it often takes to be able to manage it all.

Perfectly sassy, these women bring out a playfulness when it's time to break out the nurturer!

Q: Speaking of caffeine, what's your favorite vice? Speaking of sass, when are you apt to be a bit cheeky?
