Tinfoil Rickrack Card Garland

Here's a super simple yet very beautiful homemade Christmas card or garland you can make. If you've seen my previous posts then you know we're "getting crazy with tinfoil" here at I Gotta Create!

That's right: aluminum foil!! These 4 x 5.5 cream cards are adorned with craft paper card stock and tinfoil. That's it. It's easy to achieve this wonderful texture and silvery, ice crystal-like effect for the rickrack and snowflake.

To find out how, the full Tinfoil Rickrack Tutorial can be found by clicking here. Follow the same instructions when you put the craft paper card stock through the crimper, but only send it through once.
Another variation is to use burlap to add a wonderful, rustic texture to your card or garland.

For this card, rather than crimping the paper, simply fray some burlap and adhere it to the craft paper. Layer the tinfoil snowflake on top of a black snowflake to create added depth.

So simple, elegant and yet inexpensive. Imagine all the symbols that would look beautiful for the holidays.

While I did not glue down the entire snowflake edge so that you could see the dimension better in the photos, I recommend you do so on these large snowflakes before putting them in an envelope. You can use this tinfoil technique for the main image as in this post, or....

...make smaller embellishments for your cards. You can find an example of that here

And that's only the tip of the iceberg. Check out the links below for more projects!

  33. Great idea for using the aluminum foil, so adds the sparkle. I saw on Nate's show someone used the foil to outline the outside rim of their dinner plates, who would of thought of that. So disappointed to hear his show has been cancelled. UGH. You cards are really quite pretty, and congrats on all your "features" you've received on them. Thanks for sharing all your project's at Sunday's Best. We love your inspiration.

  36. Do you have a tutorial on making the different kinds of tin foil snowflakes?? I can't seem to find one. They are so pretty.

Also, do you have any ideas on how to texture foil without a crimper?? I just can't afford one.

    Thanks,
    Stacy
