Newspaper Nest Tutorial

Make functional nests from strips of newspaper or magazines. | Paper #Nest Tutorial at I Gotta Create!

One of my favorite
signs of Spring in nature
is the nest.

The nest inspires all
kinds of decor, crafts, and holiday goodies.

These little newspaper nests
can be used throughout the Spring season,
and are perfect for Easter celebrations.

Here's how to make a newspaper nest:

Supplies for making Spring nests from strips of newspaper or magazines. | Spring #Nest Tutorial at I Gotta Create!

Your basic supplies are:
Strips of newspaper, book or magazine.
Glue (thinned with water), mod podge,
or matte varnish.
Plastic wrap and something to drape
the strips of paper over ~
An empty paper towel or toilet paper tube
is the right size for making sweet little nests.

Spread the plastic wrap over the cardboard tube
so that your nest won't stick to it.

For these nests, I cut one of my old
meditation magazines into thin strips.

Tear your strips of newspaper or magazine
into small pieces to build up the base of the nest.

Position inspiring words face down on
the plastic wrap. That way when the nest
is finished, you'll see those words.

After you've built up a layer of tiny strips,
add a generous dollop of glue or mod podge
as shown in Step 4:

Now start building up the nest by draping
long strips of newspaper or magazine
in a spoke-like pattern
on top of the base you just created
as shown in Step 5.

Drag strips of varying lengths through
the Mod Podge and weave them through
the spokes in a random way.
Repeat until you have only small holes
where there is no strip of paper.
Congratulations, you just made a nest!

Carefully tease the nest apart from the
plastic wrap while it is still a bit damp.
Drape clean plastic wrap over the tube.
Replace the damp nest and allow it to dry.

Your nest is ready to fill with
Spring goodies!

Place a little disk of wax paper in the bottom
of the nest if you put unwrapped candy in it.
