Turn Plastic Food Containers into Pretty Planters

Seems like everything comes in plastic now.

Recycle most of it, but also have fun

upcycling plastic food containers
into pretty planters!

What's more, I will show you how
with just a few simple steps you can
mix and match them around to
constantly create fresh color combinations.

When you have
all those starter plants that need repotting,
this is a pretty, earth-friendly and inexpensive way
to get the job done.

Here's how to turn plastic containers like
yogurt tubs into pretty planters:

You can quickly develop a stash of
containers like these 24-oz yogurt tubs.
To make one planter you want to start with
two plain plastic food containers...

Drill a few holes in one container for drainage.

Spray paint your containers in coordinating colors.
You can see here that I will be making
two planters {four containers}

Leave the container with the holes
in the bottom as your main planter.

For the other container, use good kitchen scissors
to cut a pattern into the container such as this simple scallop.
This container will not have holes.
You can put a layer of sand or gravel
in this one to create a little more room
for drainage.

Now stack your containers together!

You can mix and match
and switch them up when you get bored
with one color combination.

You can triple-layer them, using an unpainted
container as your planter like I did below
~ nobody will ever know!
{wink!}

These are 3 stacked yogurt containers ~ they make pretty planters! Paint several in coordinating colors and mix 'em up when you need a change. Tutorial at I Gotta Create!

upcycled, super-cute planter...
