How to Make a 3D Paper Star

Stars are wonderful symbols

for so many seasons and uses.

You can make 

big, bold, beautiful 3 dimensional stars

like you see in ~this post~

to brighten any party,

room, patio or deck

with this

3D Paper Star Tutorial

Here are the directions:

Start with a square of paper any size.

I make mine with 12x12 card stock paper

so that they are extra firm and sturdy.

In this tutorial, we cut down 
8.5 x 11 card stock to an 8.5 square. 

You can use regular paper or other craft papers.

Half the fun is choosing the

paper style and pattern!

Once you have your square,

place your paper in front of you with the

pattern or "good" side up facing you, 

and the back side down.

1. Fold the paper in half (pattern side in),

making a good crease on the back side.

2. Unfold and repeat in the other direction,

pattern side still in.

Now, unfold your paper, and flip 

it over so the back side is facing you.

3. Fold it in half diagonally (back side in), 

making a good crease on the pattern side.

4. Unfold and repeat in the other direction,

pattern side still out.

5. Unfold and you will see

a star shape starting to emerge,

with creased peaks on the patterned side,

and creased troughs.

6. Pencil in a cutting line

half way up each of the trough creases,

and snip.

Now, flip your paper over so the

back side is facing up. 
7.  Fold the snipped edge to the center crease.

The snipped "flap" should reach the center 

crease if you snipped far enough in.

Repeat on the other side so that

you form a point.

8.  Repeat all the way around the star

until you have all four points.

Now you're going to glue 

those flaps together.

Here's where you get to decide

how flat or peaked your star will be.

The smaller the overlap,

the flatter the star.

You can squeeze the flaps together

until they almost completely overlap

to create a star that really pops out!

Hot glue the flaps together,

or use a heavy-duty double-sided

tape if your star is from card stock paper.

Regular glue should suffice on

regular paper.

If you will be hanging your star,

I recommend this paper clip trick.

Hot glue a little looped end

securely into one point so that 

later you can affix string.

Now you have created one side of your star.

Repeat this process for the other side.

You can use the very same paper,

or mix and match patterns like I did
