One of my hubby's coworkers
gave me a stash of old buttons.
What a sweetie!
In one jar I found lots of old
patinaed buttons and objects.
This was among them.
I thought it would be fun to
play a guessing game with you.
Someone is sure to know what this thingy is,
and the history behind it.
So, please leave a comment and tell us:
What is that thingy?
Or if you don't know, you can
have fun making something up.
{wink}
I've also got a notion that you might enjoy
some free virtual Washi Tape.
Yes?

They are collar buttons. They were used with men's detachable collars in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Here is a website about collar buttons of all kinds:

I'll believe Jo! I was going to say the things you strung corset ribbon around, or the back of the wedding dress, or a boot lace thing - all the kind were you just pull the lace around it. But, yah, I think it's a collar button.

A collar button seems like the best answer!
ReplyDeleteBUT, I'm thinking this would be the perfect button for the pregnant woman wearing jeans. She could replace the top snap or flat button above the zipper with this handle little thingy. On the other side, wrap a rubber band and attach to this hook so the jeans would fit the ever-expanding tummy!
I wasn't even sure it was facing the right direction :P
ReplyDeleteThe collar button makes sense, but in my internet search I haven't found any that look exactly like this... ?
ReplyDeleteWhat about a door stop? :)
ReplyDeleteThey are Cuff Links/Collar Buttons!!!
ReplyDeleteToday, men do not normally wear dress shirts that are in need of such things!!!
I agree with Sunny, they are cuff links. I have some but don't look exactly like that.
ReplyDeleteThe suggestions sound good, I do not know, but love the color. Love buttons too. A treasure anyway.
