First: tips for the background and focal image:

Create an interesting, textured background
and use up your paper scraps by cutting out
squares and adhering them in a grid pattern.

Or, if you need designer paper,

Of course, a gorgeous main image grounds the piece and invites you to linger with the card for awhile.

There's much to behold here:
Notice the gold pen around edges of the squares.
Notice the corrugated square. I put that one through the paper crimper.
Notice the deckled edge on the main image - in contrast to the very square motif.
