Skull Planter Tutorial

That's using your noggin!  It's Skull Surgery Makeover week and this one sports quite the hairdo with a philodendron and silk embellishments.

Some minor plastic surgery is all it takes to turn a Dollar Store skull into a skull planter....

Let's go inside the Creepy Craftorium to see how Dr. Graves performs this amazing feat...

On your Surgical tray you will need a drill and a hot knife. Only skilled folks like Dr. Graves should use tools like these ~ definitely no youngsters!

Definitely wear your safety glasses.

You will drill a pilot hole into the skull with a small drill bit...

...and that will allow you to make the rest of your cut with the hot knife. Use lots of care, follow the directions that come with the tool...

Hmmm... Looks like our client won't be needing this anymore...

So... add a layer of rocks inside the skull so your plant has good drainage. My Dollar Store skull already had a little drain hole, but if yours doesn't, just use a drill to make one. Just be sure to set your skull planter on a plate when you water.

Add a houseplant, a rubber rat, some silk Fall leaves and cattails, and this patient becomes quite handsome.

A Skull Planter!
Quite a looker, eh?

Fabulous from every angle.
{She'd make a fun party hostess gift.}

Looks even classier in glasses, don't you think?

She appears especially smart in your library.

We're conducting Skull Surgery Makeovers all week here at I Gotta Create!
